Liminal Drift

April 1st, 2016 – May 1st, 2016

Abigail Ogilvy Gallery is proud to present Liminal Drift, a duo show with sculptor Elisa Adams and painter Natalia Wróbel, whose fluid use of medium creates work that drifts between the boundaries of dimension.

Elisa Adams has the strong and careful touch of a chiropractor and sculptor. In her hands the rigid material of stone comes to life and forms fluid shapes that dance with energy. Adams began working with stone just over a decade ago, and has spent those years forming a connection between her fingertips and the stone, challenging its limits and harnessing its strengths. Adams draws inspiration from natural elements. Her pieces drift between the boundaries of hard and soft, organic and inanimate. Her current body of work is a tapestry of her journey as a sculptor, including her abstract pieces, nature-influenced works, and figurative sculpture.

Adams is a member of the Cambridge Art Association and her work has been featured in galleries throughout Massachusetts, most recently at the Three Stones Gallery in Concord, MA.

Natalia Wróbel is a Polish-American artist working in Cambridge, MA. Her work is inspired by mindfulness and the gravity underlying simple, everyday moments. Her paintings represent the liminal realm beyond our physical world and the interconnectedness of people, nature, history and spirit. Her use of oil paint creates a three-dimensional space that draws the audience into the canvas, and at times pulls the paint out from the second dimension to play with light and texture in ours. Wróbel’s current series, Portal, creates an entrance into spiritual worlds, suspended in time. The visual elements of the series are inspired by the mind’s experiences during meditation, prayer, and “relaxed attentiveness”. It draws from images of neural networks and the idea of “whole brain connectivity”, when information flows freely.

Wróbel’s work has been featured in private and public collections around the world, and shown in notable Art Fairs including Art Basel: Miami, Art South Hampton, and Texas Contemporary. She studied Studio Art at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, the Lorenzo de’Medici Institute in Italy, and the New York Studio School, where she was awarded the Mercedes Matter painting fellowship.
